The Town Park

A modern conception of the town planning of the 2 nd half of the 19 th century also included the creation of a town park, which was founded in 1890.

Thus a place for recreation, rest and learning appeared. The park was founded on the hillside of Janský Hill in the places where one of the battles of the Prussian-Austrian War took place on 27 June 1866. The park was being laid out for a few decades; the original greenery planted in the lower part of the park was gradually supplemented with further paths creeping up the hill, and with small staircases, terraces and observation towers. The lower part is laid out as a French park with two terraces interconnected by a staircase. You can also find an over 100-metre long underground passage here, which is very popular with tourists. The passage is open occasionally. The middle part of the park is arranged in the style of English landscape parks with a group of petrified trees. In the upper part the park gradually changes into a forest park with many well-maintained paths.
