The Krakonoš Fountain

Since 1892, The Trutnov square has been dominated by the Krakonoš Fountain.

It was built in the place where the Dragon Well with a sandstone sculpture of a dragon used to stand a hundred year before. It was transferred to the town park where it decorates a small lake in the bottom part of the park today. The Krakonoš Fountain is made up of a granite basin, a sandstone core and a metal, more than two metres high classical sculpture of the Lord of the Mountains, created according to the design of Josef Kirschner, the professor of Trutnov Grammar School. The original sculpture of zinc cast iron was created in the Berlin artistic foundry of A. Castner. In 2001, the sculpture, considerably damaged with age, was replaced with a bronze replica created in the atelier of Jindřich Janeček from Vamberk.
